Piedmont Geriatric Hospital (PGH), operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is a 123-bed psychiatric facility dedicated exclusively to serving individuals aged 65 and older.

The Nursing Department provides 24-hour direct care services to geropsychiatric patients. The goal of care is to facilitate discharge to a less restrictive setting by assisting patients to improve and/or maintain their physical, mental and social functioning. This nursing care goal is achieved in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

This is a unit-based position that supervises nursing staff on one of four treatment units. Responsibilities include participation in treatment team meetings, therapeutic program activities, and ensuring delivery of patient care according to the individual treatment plans. This position acts as the point of leadership for a team of health care professionals by guiding, coaching and evaluating staff.

Utilize nursing process with knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric disorders and physical, psychological and social needs of the psychiatric patient. Skills in delegating nursing activities, skills in supervising, and counseling nursing employees. Demonstrates competency as defined on Competency Assessment

Minimum Qualifications

• Basic Computer Knowledge
• Virginia State Board of Registered Nursing License

Additional Considerations

• Prefer bachelor’s degree in nursing
• Med-surg nursing experience is preferred.
• Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
• Long Term Care and Nursing Home Experience is preferred.
• Prefer bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Experience working with Electronic Health Records.
