Position Title: Workforce Instructional Career Coach

Purpose

The Workforce Instructional Career Coach supports participants in the Road to Success in Virginia Program (RSVP) who are enrolled in healthcare FastForward programs by strengthening the integration of workplace readiness, employability skills, and digital literacy into credential training. Operating within Thomas Jefferson Adult Career Education's (TJACE) Integrated Education and Training (IET) model, the position collaborates with the TJACE Career Coach, Healthcare Workforce Development Instructor, FastForward Career Coach, program managers, instructors, and other Workforce Development staff to support participant persistence, training completion, credential attainment, and successful transition to employment.

As a primarily instructional and curriculum-support role, the Workforce Instructional Career Coach works directly with program managers and instructors to embed workforce readiness throughout the curriculum and student experience. The position provides in-class and supplemental learner support; delivers contextualized workplace readiness, employability skills, and digital literacy instruction aligned with healthcare credential content and program timelines; assists in assessing participants' workforce readiness and skill-development needs; and collaborates with instructors to integrate, reinforce, and evaluate workplace readiness competencies within technical coursework.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide contextualized workplace-readiness and employability instruction within RSVP healthcare credential programs, including goal setting, growth mindset, digital literacy, time management, teamwork, test-taking strategies, workplace communication, professionalism, and other competencies relevant to training completion and healthcare employment.

• Provide in-class and parallel learner support aligned with healthcare credential content and training timelines to help participants develop and apply skills that contribute to successful training and credential attainment.
• Collaborate with the TJACE Career Coach, Healthcare Workforce Development instructor, FastForward Career Coach, and other Workforce Development staff to assess participant workplace-readiness and employability skills and digital literacy needs and identify strategies for addressing needs that may affect credential completion.
• Work with healthcare subject matter expert (SME) instructors to embed relevant workplace-readiness and employability skills and employability competencies into technical curricula and develop or adapt contextualized lesson plans, activities, scenarios, and instructional resources.
• Support SME instructors in teaching, reinforcing, and assessing workplace-readiness skills within technical instruction and in identifying opportunities for participants to demonstrate those skills through authentic learning activities.
• Develop and implement assessment strategies and tools that measure participant development of workplace-readiness and employability skills, digital literacy, and workplace-readiness competencies and provide evidence of skill development and instructional effectiveness.
• Develop, organize, and maintain integrated instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments within Canvas and support instructors in effectively using those resources.
• Coordinate with the FastForward Career Coach to align embedded instruction with individualized career coaching and employment preparation and connect participants who need additional career coaching or supportive services with appropriate resources, as well as develop activities for students that provide opportunities for students to demonstrate workplace readiness.
• Use participant needs, performance, assessment results, and instructor feedback to strengthen curriculum and instructional practices and contribute to continuous improvement of workplace-readiness and employability skills integration within FastForward programs.
• Maintain required documentation and participate in program planning, professional development, evaluation, and other activities supporting RSVP and healthcare FastForward program outcomes.

• Experience in teaching, training, facilitation, career coaching, workforce development, instructional design, curriculum development, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging, learner-centered, and applied learning experiences for adult learners.
• Knowledge of digital literacy, workplace readiness, employability skills, and career development competencies, with the ability to contextualize and integrate those skills within occupational training programs.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with instructors, subject matter experts, career coaches, program managers, and other workforce development staff.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, follow-up, record-keeping, and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with instructional technologies and digital tools, with the ability to learn and use the College's learning management and workforce information systems.

• Experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and/or learner assessment.
• Experience using Canvas or another learning management system to develop, support, or deliver instruction.
• Experience teaching or facilitating digital literacy, workplace readiness, employability skills, career readiness, or related workforce preparation content.
• Experience in career coaching, career development, workforce advising, employment services, or job readiness programming.
• Experience developing competency-based, performance-based, or skills-based assessments, rubrics, and other measures of learner progress and skill attainment.
• Experience collaborating with subject matter experts and instructors to integrate workplace readiness and employability skills into occupational or technical curricula.
• Knowledge of Integrated Education and Training (IET) or similar models that integrate adult education, workforce preparation, and occupational skills instruction.
• Experience in healthcare education, healthcare workforce development, healthcare training, or healthcare employment settings.
• Experience supporting adult learners from under-resourced, underserved, or barriered populations.
• Familiarity with FastForward, RSVP, TANF, SNAP, or similar workforce development, education, and supportive-services programs.
• Virginia Career Coach Certification or comparable career development credential or training.
